Headed Home
Full sheet watercolor, gouache, casein, The white gouache wasn't working too well over the watercolor and subsequent layers of gouache so I turned to casein white. It didn't sink in like the gouache. It laid on top. The sky was clear watercolor
The painting was done on 300lb rough paper. I choose the rough to give me the texture of reflected light over the dark blueish undertone of water. I dry brushed the lights reflected from the sky.

Venice Light
Watercolor on Arches 140lb. 22x30 cold press paper. The sky was done with a series of "pours". Watercolor was mixed in a paper cup and poured on. The sun was masked out with a compas attached to a ruling pen. The ruling pen contained the pebeo masking fluid. After making a perfect circle I masked in the remainder of the circle then removed the mask after the second pouring. There were about four layers of poured paint. I titled the paper to obtain the gradation. The sky was never touched by a brush.

Kids on Crescent Beach
16x20 oil on canvas board. Figures were put together after carefully choosing various poses from different photos I had taken on Crescent Beach in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
After the painting was finished I decided to add the figures at the surf.
